Project 2: Paying It Forward
Project 1: The People & Planet International Photography Competition 2013
For this initial project, we were to submit four photographs reflecting the "People & Planet". It is an international photography competition and this excerpt from the official website explains the objective of this project -
Photography has long been a passion of mine and an integral part of my creative exploration of life, therefore this project was close to my heart. It was great creating a narrative about the planet and its people using photographs and words to accompany them. Being able to submit to the international competition is also a great opportunity.

Traditional transportation lives through the test of time as technology improves rapidly and private, fast transportation becomes a common accessible possession in most people's lives. But how much longer will it take until technology overcomes tradition and culture? Bandung, Indonesia

As the human population in urban cities grow in size, so does the need to build more and more high-rise buildings. This is to maximize land usage, however does not mean that the natural landscape goes unharmed. Many of the natural surroundings have been destroyed to make way for such developments. The Holy City of Mecca is visited by hundreds of Muslims pilgrims from all corners of the world everyday. However, the skyline is rapidly transforming as hundreds of cranes fill the sky. The cranes foreshadow the upcoming high rise buildings that will potentially overshadow the importance of the Holy Mosque itself. Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

A local man makes his living through a simple homemade stall which he uses to sell a local favorite dessert on the roadside. The locals make full use of walking on the roadside, allowing for a constant influx of customers. Bandung, Indonesia

As part of our module, we were to engage in a community service project. The aim is to solve an existing problem faced by a non-profit organization by providing solutions that are environmentally friendly, As a group of 10 architecture students, we selected a children's shelter house, aimed at rescuing children from broken homes & a life on the street. We wanted to lighten up their living environment by building a fun shelter in the garden.
From this project, we produced a full cradle-to-grave report of the work as well as produce a short video to highlight our process.
This was a really fun, exciting project requiring a lot of hard manual work. But it was definitely worth it in the end when we got to see the children's smiling faces!
